Faculty Honorees October 2009

Texas libraries of all kind, academic, school, public and special, are participating in TLS Day throughout the month of October by collecting statistics, comments, and photos on a typical day. Moffett Library ‘s day will be Oct. 20. Stop by and use computers, check out books, DVDs, laptops, attend the Faculty Honors reception, have a snack on us and tell us how you use the library and library services.

Young adult literature fantasy fiction researchers presented a mini-presentation of research on Alice in Wonderland and Harry Potter. Student – researchers were Sarah Stewart who spoke on “Our Lord and Savior, Harry Potter”, and Roxanne Ward who spoke on “Alice.” Allison Steger, fantasy fiction fan and a librarian at the Wichita Falls Public Library discussed the current and future trends of this ever changing genre. “ All students were enrolled in a fantasy fiction literature class taught by Dr. Peter Fields.

Starting July 1, 2010 the following media equipment when overdue will cost $25 per item per day. So remember when you check out the following: laptops, camcorders, digital projectors, tripods, and digital cameras . When these are late the cost has increased to $25.00 per day per item.

The library is sorely limited in the amounts of equipment we have to check out; when a few items are not returned on time the confusion and unhappines it brings to others can be tremendous. Feel free to speak to Chris Henderson at 397-4696 if you have questions.

Wichita Falls Area Food Bank thanks the MSU community

Moffett Library sponsored Food for Fines Weeks during April 2010 at the Library. In lieu of fines, students as well as other supporters donated 284 lbs. worth of canned and packaged food. This is the 2nd year that the library has offered this way of coming together for this area in the midst of a major economic downturn effecting hundreds of area families. Thank you MSU students!!!

Texas Library Snapshot Day

Texas Library Association sponsors snapshot day from April 26 – May 7. The purpose is to increase public awareness of the place all kinds of libraries, school, academic, public, and special have in a civil society. This year Moffett Library participated on April the 28; we sponsored Library After Dark from 5 pm – 10 pm. Activities included trivial pursuit or are you smarter than a librarian?, free food for those studying, and specialized assistance from trained staff. Students commented on how they were surprised to see librarians out of their normal dress. Some librarians came in slippers, pajamas, in homage to the after dark theme. Based on the positive response this will probably be an annual event. Thanks to those who helped make this a success.10 pm to thank the student body community who among others uses the services we provide. While there was fun in playing trivial pursuit, having popcorn, and drawings for Happy Meal style prizes we hope the public who happened to be in the building remember that their success is in part from their use of this academic library. The pictures are just a few of the shots captured during the evening. Thanks to all who helped make this day a success.

Tara Boddie, an MSU student, was the winner in the candy jar contest held during National Library Week 2010. The winning number was 150! Tara was the proud winner of a water mug packed full of delicious treats. Thanks to the many entries we recieved.

It’s Library After Dark will take place after 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 28.

The library will provide cookies, help with papers, popcorn, research assistance, special drawings, and lots more
